Rock Hill, S.C. - Brevard College sophomore men’s tennis player Sam MacNeil was named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for the week of March 4-11, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.
MacNeil went a perfect 6-for-6 at no. 1 singles during the Tornados Spring Break trip down to Hilton Head, S.C. and combined with Beau Wills to go 5-for-6 at no. 1 doubles as the sophomore from Dunfermline, Scotland defeated opponents from schools from Florida, Michigan, Virginia, Indiana, Iowa.
The 2011 South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year won five of his six singles matches in straight sets, winning his toughest match of the week against Michigan Tech’s Anders Sandhold in a dominant three set victory, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
MacNeil also topped the no. 1 of #38 ranked Palm Beach Atlantic, Mick Lyons, in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, and teamed up with Wills to defeat the Sailfish’s no. 1 doubles team, 8-6.
