Tarron Robinson and Merriken had multiple hits for Brevard and Kramer Clark drove in a run, but Catawba took advantage of four Brevard errors, scoring four unearned runs in support of Jankowski (6-0) as the right-hander retired 13 BC players on strikes in the victory.

Catawba struck first in the top of the first inning as Garrett Furr singled through the left side of the infield and came around to score on Chris Dula’s two-out double off the right centerfield fence, giving the Indians the early lead. The Indians added two more runs in the second as Keaton Hawks and Greg Lawson came around to score on a failed pickoff attempt, giving Catawba the 3-0 lead after two innings.

The Indians added a fourth run in the top of the fourth as Lawson scored on a BC throwing error, but Brevard answered with their first run of the game in the bottom half of the frame. Merriken and Chad Funkhouser reached on back-to-back one-out singles and Cody Queen reached on a fielding error to load the bases, before Clark brought Merriken home with a fielder’s choice as Queen broke up the double play attempt to put the score at 4-1.

The Indians added three more unearned runs over the fifth and sixth innings as Ethan Satterfield scored on a BC throwing error in the fifth frame, while Julio Zubillaga and Furr drove in runs in the sixth to close out the scoring as Catawba topped Brevard, 7-1 in the series opener.

Game Two: Catawba 7, Brevard 0

The Indians again took advantage of Brevard fielding miscues in the nightcap of Saturday’s doubleheader and Nick Lomascolo (5-2) outdueled Casey Smith (1-2) on the mound to give the Indians the series victory over the Tornados.

Furr doubled in a run for the Indians in the top of the first inning and Cameron Beard brought in Satterfield with an RBI single in the third to give Catawba the early advantage, before the Indians broke the game open in the top of the fourth.

Lawson opened the inning with a solo home run and Beard did the majority of the damage for the Indians with a two RBI single, scoring Dula and Furr as Catawba built a 7-0 lead midway through the game.

Lomascolo faced one batter over the minimum the rest of the way as Champ Stuart drew a walk to lead off the fifth inning, to complete the shutout.
