Rock Hill, S.C. - Brevard College softball pitcher and third baseman Kayla Clemens was named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Clemens, who shares Player of the Week honors with Catawba’s Tara Gibbs, shined at both the plate and in the pitcher’s circle this past week in leading Brevard to a 4-2 record on the field.
Clemens helped the Tornados sweep conference opponent Lincoln Memorial and Johnson C. Smith, driving in the game-winning three run home run against LMU in the second game, while going 5-for-6 from the plate against JCSU with four RBIs and three runs scored in the sweep against the Golden Bulls.
On the mound, Clemens pitched 27.0 innings, with a 0.77 earned run average on the week with 14 strikeouts, recording both victories against Lincoln Memorial and a complete game win over the Golden Bulls on Sunday afternoon.
Clemens joins Cody Queen (Baseball) and Sam MacNeil (Men’s Tennis) as Brevard student-athletes who have been honored SAC Player of the Week for their respective sports in the spring season.
