PRATA CLINCHES FOR THE THIRD TIME AS TORNADOS DOWN SAINTS

Brevard sweeps doubles, takes four singles wins in victory

Dahlonega, Ga. - The Brevard College women’s tennis team swept all three doubles matches, and Claire Dillman, Elise Labus and Jennifer Nyman recorded singles wins, with Michelle Prata clinching the Tornados win with a straight set victory on court no. 3 as Brevard topped North Georgia on Tuesday afternoon, 7-2.

Brevard improves to 8-5 on the season, while North Georgia falls to 5-8.

The Tornados received their first point of the match by forfeit on court no. 3 and Brevard made the Saints pay for the early advantage as Dillman and Prata topped Natalia Escobar and Audrey Marlette on court no. 1, 8-5. Lindsay Hostetter and Nyman completed the Brevard sweep to send the Tornados into singles play with the 3-0 advantage as the senior duo topped Jordan Poole and Nela Handac, 9-7.

Nyman pushed the Tornados within one point of the victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Handac on court no. 5, before Prata clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court no. 3 over Marlette, recording the clinching victory for the third time in the 2012 season.

Dillman and Labus also recorded wins for Brevard, with Dillman winning in straight sets on court no. 2 over Juliana Chiang, 6-0, 7-6 (7-1). Labus had a tougher time on court no. 4, dropping the first set to Poole, 2-6, before rallying to even the match with a 6-3 win. In the third set tiebreaker, Labus outlasted Poole, 16-14 to record her ninth individual win on the season.

Escobar and Maria Romero recorded singles wins for the host Saints to close out the scoring.

Brevard returns home to the McCoy Tennis Complex on Friday, March 23rd, as the Tornados welcome Pfeiffer University for a non-conference match. First serve in doubles competition is set for 2 p.m.
