Brevard, N.C. - Back-to-back doubles and a sacrifice fly by Josh Huffman in the top of the ninth gave King their first lead of the game and David Pritchard held the Tornados off the scoreboard in the bottom half of the frame, battling out of a two on, one-out jam as King defeated Brevard at Gil Coan Field on Wednesday afternoon, 5-4.
Zach Huneycutt (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season as Brevard falls to 15-20 overall in 2012. King (19-12) and Pritchard (2-0) improve their win totals as the Tornado recorded the season sweep over Brevard.

Kameron Armacost reached on a one-out single and the senior from Littlestown, Pa. took advantage of a fielding miscue on Chad Funkhouser’s single up the middle, scoring from first base for the first run of the contest. Cody Queen followed with an RBI base hit down the left field line, scoring Funkhouser to give Brevard the 2-0 advantage after one inning.
Tarron Robinson added another run for the Tornados in the fourth inning, leading off the frame with a double to right field. Brevard loaded the bases in the inning with two outs as Bennett Hixson and Champ Stuart reached on a walk and hits’ batsman, before Armacost beat out an infield single, allowing Robinson to score to give BC the 3-0 lead.
King battled back in the top of the fifth, snapping Joseph Lepore’s shutout bid as King brought the game back to within one run. The Tornado loaded the bases on a pair of walks and a hits’ batsman before Doug Freeman came around to score on a wild pitch to give King their first run in the game. A walk issued to Cody Snyder loaded the bases with one out, before Huffman brought in Tyler Orndorff with a sacrifice fly to centerfield, cutting the lead to 3-2. Dustin Haithcox retired the side, keeping Brevard on top heading into the sixth.
The visitors evened the score in the top of the sixth as Jarrod Payne singled in Tyler Gaby with one out in the inning, but Brevard answered in the bottom half of the inning, retaking the lead as Armacost brought in Hixson with a bunt single to put the score at 4-3 Brevard heading into the final three innings.
King battled back to take their first lead of the game in the top of the ninth inning, knotting the game up in the first two batters as Bryant Walker and Garrett Cook reached on back-to-back doubles, tying the game up at 4 apiece. A sacrifice bunt advanced Cook to third, where Huffman brought him home with a sacrifice fly ball to straightaway centerfield, giving King the 5-4 lead.
Chad Funkhouser attempted to bring the Tornados back in the bottom half of the inning, reaching on a full-count single up the middle to lead off the frame against Pritchard. A sacrifice bunt moved the tying run into scoring position, and Robinson reached on a walk, putting the winning run on base for Brevard. However, the King lefty retired the final two batters to keep Brevard at bay as King recorded the 5-4 victory.
Individually, Armacost led the Tornados from the plate, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a run, while Funkhouse and Stuart combined for five hits for Brevard. Huffman drove in two runs for King, while Stephen Mullins and Freeman had two hits apiece for the visitors.
