Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their 2012 seasons at the Eye Opener Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina on Friday. The men placed 8th out of a field of 25 teams, and the women took 13th out of a field of 23 teams.
Freshman Dakota Poindexter paced the men for Brevard, finishing the 8K course with a time of 28:03.11. Poindexter was followed closely by Preseason All-SAC selection Josh Mower, who ran the course in 28:23.72.
"Our men's team ran well as a team, and had a strong 8th place finish,” said head coach Thomas Cason. “We beat a lot of strong teams, but we also know we have a lot of hard work ahead of us if we want to accomplish our goals by the end of the season."
Preseason All-SAC selection Angela Canale led the women’s
team, finishing the 5K course in 21:00.04. Freshman Hannah Cook finished right
behind Canale in her first collegiate race with a time of 21:
"Our women's team ran strong,” Cason said. “We are off to a good start and look forward to working hard this week to improve and get ready for our next meet."
The Tornados are back in action on Saturday, September 8th, as they take on the field in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational at 9 a.m.
