Mars Hill, N.C. – The Brevard College volleyball team stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Lions of Mars Hill College 3-2 in five sets (19-25, 9-25, 25-21, 25-23, and 15-10) on Friday night, winning the final three sets in dramatic fashion.

With the win the Tornados go to 2-0 against Mars Hill and sweep the season series having defeated the Lions in three straight games, 3-0, back on September 23.  BC improves to 10-11 overall and 2-8 in the SAC in 2008, while Mars Hill falls to 7-11 overall and 1-8 in the conference with the loss.

The Tornados fell behind early to the Lions, dropping the opening set 25-19 and then allowing the Lions to win big in the second set 25-9.

With the match on the line, the Tornados refused to go away and stormed back to win set three 25-21.

In set four, again facing a must win to force the fifth and final set, the Tornados controlled the set, holding off the Lions down the stretch for the 25-23 win, which knotted the score up at 2-2.

The Tornados did not falter at all in the fifth in final set, as BC led for most of the set before coming away with the 15-10 set victory and the 3-2 match win.

Junior Chelsey Trojan's double-double (13 kills, 11 digs) highlighted Brevard's comeback. Junior middle hitter Brooke Seaman scored 19 kills for the Tornados. Senior Jami Perry and freshman Chelsea Larsen were in double figures for digs with 19 and 10, respectively.  Sophomore libero recorded 15 digs on the night, while junior Cori Emory had nine digs to go along with her four service aces.

The Lions were led by Evie Tafunai's double-double (14 kills, 11 digs). Offensively Lindsay Phillips and Traci Teague each posted 11 kills. Defensively Kelly Koziel recorded an impressive 31 digs. Setter Jessica Britt had 18 assists.

The Tornados will not have long to rest, as Coach Skeffington’s squad will return to action tomorrow night, when BC will play host to the SAC leading Wingate University Bulldogs at 7 p.m. at Boshamer Gymnasium.  Mars Hill will continue its SAC schedule on Tuesday, October 21, when the Lions will play at Tusculum College at 7 p.m.
