Brevard, N.C.- The BC women's soccer team lost 3-0 at home to the Wingate University Bulldogs in South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs scored at 11:16 in the first half to take a 1-0 lead, but BC kept Wingate within striking distance for the most of the game. Katie Simpson scored first for the Bulldogs, obtaining the rebound of a Wingate shot off the post and firing it into the net above the reach of BC keeper Brittany Webster.
Brevard kept the game close with several scoring opportunities in the first half, as Chantel Azevedo fired a shot on goal at 29:15 and Hannah Graham put a shot on goal at 38:55. Wingate keeper Miriam Boucher came up with saves on both plays.
The Bulldogs took the 1-0 lead into halftime, but BC came out with intensity after the break. Katherine Nickels tested the Wingate defense with a shot on goal at 47:20, but Boucher was there to make the play once again.
Wingate scored two goals late at 61:48 and 75:28 to put the game out of BC's reach, making the box score appear more lopsided than the game actually played out.
The Tornados are back in action against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Saturday, October 6th at 5 p.m.
