Newberry, SC.- The Brevard College volleyball team went down in straight sets to Newberry College in Eleazer Arena on Saturday afternoon, 25-15, 25-14, 25-20.
Samantha Parrish led Newberry with 10 kills while Elayni Stokes had 14 digs. Madison Schultz had six of Newberry’s 10 team blocks.
The first set began as a see-saw battle as the score was tied at 9-9 early. Newberry then scored 15 of the next 19 points to get a 22-13 lead before taking the set.
The Tornados struggled in the second set, leading at only 2-0 before the Wolves took control of the set.
The Tornados started the third set on fire, scoring the first seven points. The Wolves, however, went on an 8-0 run to take a 17-16 lead. BC was with Newberry as late as 19-19, but Newberry scored six of the final seven points to earn the sweep.
Fatima Gharachorloo contributed a team-high eight kills to head the BC attack.
The Brevard College Tornados are hosting a tournament on Saturday, October 20th beginning at 10 a.m. The Tournament will feature Converse College, Limestone College and Johnson C. Smith University. BC is scheduled to open the tournament at 10 a.m. against Converse, and play the final game Saturday afternoon against Johnson C. Smith.
