Helmick Named to SAC All-Freshman Team, All-SAC Second Team

Greenville, Tenn.- The Brevard College men’s cross country team ran their way to a 5th place finish at the SAC Cross Country Championship on Saturday morning.

The Tornados 5th place team finish ties the mark for best team finish since joining the South Atlantic Conference as a full member in 2008. The BC cross country team finished 5th at the SAC tournament in 2011 as well.

Freshman Patrick Helmick led the way for the Tornados, turning in a time of 27:52.2 to earn a 12th place individual finish on the 8K course. Helmick was named to both the SAC All-Freshman Team and the All-SAC Second Team.

Josh Mower and Jordan Tager both placed in the top 25 for Brevard, at 21st and 23rd, respectively. Mower completed the course in 28:15.3 just ahead of Tager, who came in at 28:19.6.

"The men had a strong team effort and were rewarded with a top five finish in the conference,” said head coach Thomas Cason. “We are excited to race at regionals in two weeks."

The men’s cross country team will now gear up for NCAA DII Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday, November 3rd at McAlpine Greenway Park in Charlotte.
