Salisbury, N.C- The Brevard College Tornados went down 3-1 to the Catawba College Indians in their 2012 season finale on Saturday afternoon at Frock Field.
Freshman Katherine Nickels scored her first collegiate goal in the 60th minute to bring the tornados within a goal at 2-1. Nickles launched a shot that just got through the hands of Catawba keeper Bethany Lewis for the score.
Before the Tornados had a chance to deliver the equalizer, the Indians struck at 67:53 to make it 3-1. Mary Kirkman sent a ball into the top of the box for Amy Iwanicki, who got there just before BC keeper Brittany Webster to loft a shot into an open goal.
Webster finishes the 2012 regular season as the South Atlantic Conference’s leader in saves with 133.
Kirkman put Catawba up 1-0 with a goal in the fourth minute after Iwanicki sent a cross to Kirkman at the back post, who placed the ball just under the crossbar.
Allison Baucom gave the Indians a 2-0 when she converted a penalty kick at 46:51 after being fouled in the box.
Catawba earned a first round Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament home match, and will host Anderson University on Wednesday, October 31st at 5 p.m.
