Jackson, Tenn.- The Brevard College Tornados fell 87-72 to the Delta State Statesmen in the Union Lady Bulldog Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Tornados led by as many as seven in the second half before a three-pointer from Chelsey Rhodes gave the Statesmen a 61-59 lead with 8:25 remaining in the game.
Micheala Watkins was fouled on the Tornados next possession, and hit a free throw to bring BC within one.
Rhodes answered with another three to stretch Delta State’s lead back out to three points before the Statesmen went on a 23-12 run to end the game. Rhodes finished with 19 points.
The two teams went back and forth in the first half, and a Tuccoa Brackett jumper with :12 left in the half to send BC into the half down by only four. Brackett scored 17 points in the first half to keep the Tornados in the hunt, and finished with a career-high 21 points.
The Tornados open their home schedule on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. as they host the Virginia State Trojans in Boshamer Gymnasium.
