Brevard, N.C. – Dominique Pickett made it a one possession game with a three-pointer with :16 remaining in the game, but the Brevard College men’s basketball team couldn’t find the equalizer in a 70-64 loss to the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne in Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday evening.
The Pickett three capped a 12-4 run for the Tornados, but solid free throw shooting in the final seconds sealed the victory for the Bears.
The Tornados had no answer for Lenoir-Rhyne’s Denzel Dillingham, who tallied a career-high 34 points for the Bears. Dillingham was 10-for-17 from the field, including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc in the contest. The sophomore also grabbed eight rebounds.
Junior guard Jarvis Perry added 10 points and nine rebounds for Lenoir-Rhyne, who didn’t trail in the contest. The Bears capitalized on a 40-25 advantage on the glass, an effort led by Rob Noyes’ 11 boards.
The Tornados were within a point at 40-39 with 11:33 left in the game after seven unanswered points, but the Bears responded with a 10-0 run to push the Lenoir-Rhyne lead to 11.
Brevard's Gerel Simmons totaled a team-high 17 points, while Manzey Miller added 15 points.
Brevard is back in action on the road as they visit Lincoln Memorial, while Lenoir-Rhyne next hosts Catawba. Both games are scheduled to tip-off Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
