Harrogate, Tenn.- Tornados freshman Shelby Wolfe hit the game-winning jump shot with :43 left in overtime to lift the Brevard College women's basketball team to a 59-57 victory over the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters Wednesday night in Tex Turner Arena.
Wolfe hit the game-winner on an assist from Micheala Watkins just seconds after LMU's Mariah Richardson tied the game at 57-57 on a pair of free throws. Wolfe finished with a career-high 14 points.
After a see-saw battle in the second half, Watkins hit a three-pointer as time expired to tie the game at 53-53 and propel the Tornados into overtime. The senior led all scorers with 18 points and tallied a game-high six steals.
Brevard used a 7-2 run to close the first half and gain a two point lead heading into the break in game that saw six lead changes. Wolfe and fellow freshman Tuccoa Brackett each had eight points in the first half for BC. Brackett recorded her first career double-double, dropping 17 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
The Tornados will next take the court on Saturday as they visit the Wingate Bulldogs. Tip-off from Cuddy Arena is set for 2 p.m. The Railsplitters, meanwhile, are on the road on Saturday as they visit the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears.
