Mars Hill, N.C.- The Brevard College women’s basketball team lost a 63-52 contest with the Mars Hill College Lions in Stanford Arena on Saturday afternoon, despite a career-high 19 points from BC freshman Shelby Wolfe.
The Tornados took a 6-4 lead on a Tuccoa Brackett layup at the 15:08 mark in the first half, and were ahead until Mars Hill’s Erica Warren tied the game at 34-34 with 16:31 remaining in the game.
The Tornados led by as many as 11 in the opening half, but a 7-0 run by Mars Hill early in the second half gave the Lions a 37-34 lead and the game’s momentum.
The Lions then used a 12-2 run to take a 49-39 lead on a pair of foul shots by Katie Buckner at 9:42. Mars Hill eventually led by as many as 17 in the game's final minutes.
Wolfe finished an efficient 9-for-15 from the floor in 35 minutes of action to lead BC’s scoring attack. Micheala Watkins and Brackett also scored in double figures with 17 and 13, respectively, but three points from Tempestt Mack accounted for the rest of BC’s scoring.
Watkins also collected eight steals, grabbed six rebounds and tallied a game-high six assists.
The Tornados and Lions split their season series after BC took the first game 79-74 in Boshamer Gymnasium on December 1st.
The Tornados return to Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday to host the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters at 6 p.m. Brevard edged LMU 59-57 on a Wolfe game-winning jumper with 43 seconds left in overtime on January 16th in Tex Arena.
