Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College softball team split their doubleheader with the Erskine College Flying Fleet on Saturday afternoon, taking the first game 2-1 before falling 6-1 in the second game.
Game One –Brevard 2, Erskine 1
BC’s Jamie Hrobak (W, 1-0) tossed a complete game one-hitter while Brittany Jones went 2-for-3 with a homer and a pair of RBI’s to lift the Tornados to a 2-1 victory in their 2013 opener.
With the Tornados trailing 1-0, Jones knocked her first career home run in the top of the 3rd inning to tie game at 1-1. Jones later delivered a game-winning RBI single with two outs in the top of the 4th.
Hrobak had a no-hit bid going until a leadoff double in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Flying Fleet scored their only run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 1st.
Game Two - Erskine 6, Brevard 1
The Flying Fleet pushed across four unearned runs against starter Alyssa Miller (L, 0-1) in game two to overcome a 1-0 deficit to start things off.
The Tornados jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st after Brittany Fowler singled to lead off the game and later scored on a passed ball.
Erskine responded by scoring five runs over the first three innings, and adding a 6th run in the bottom of the 5th to take a 6-1 lead.
Brevard will host Virginia Intermont College for a double header tomorrow for their 2013 home opener. The games are scheduled to start at 1 and 3 p.m.
