Charlotte, N.C.- The Brevard College softball team swept a doubleheader from the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls on Tuesday night, taking the first game 3-0 before Kayla Clemens tossed a no-hitter in a 14-0 win in game two.
Game 1: Brevard 3, JCSU 0
Jamie Hrobak (W, 2-1) tossed a shutout for the Tornados while striking out 17 Golden Bulls in the first game of twin bill.
The Tornados got their offense going early, scoring on a Brittany Jones RBI triple in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.
The Tornados added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the 6th inning, initiated by a Meredith Davenport infield single with one out.
Emily Boykin was called in to pinch hit for Hrobak with two outs, and delivered an RBI double to put BC up 2-0.
Boykin later scored on an RBI single by Corinne Stiles to give the Tornados a 3-0 advantage.
Game 2: Brevard 14, JCSU 0
Senior Kayla Clemens (W, 1-1) threw all five innings of the run-rule shortened game without allowing a hit and striking out seven. Clemens allowed only two base runners in the game.
Brevard scored eight runs in the first inning, and five Tornados had multi-hit games in Brevard’s 14-0 routing of the Golden Bulls to complete the sweep.
Brittany Jones finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI’s, while Meredith Davenport, Clemens, Ally Davenport, and Michelle Ray each had two hits. Ray also drove in four runs.
The Tornados return to action as they host Lees-McCrae for a doubleheader on Saturday, February 16th at 1 and 3 p.m.
