Brevard, N.C.- BC senior Brittany Tucker belted a two-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 8th inning of the second game of a doubleheader with the Milligan College Buffaloes to lift the Tornados to a 3-1 victory after the Tornados fell 4-3 in the opener.
Game One: Milligan 4, Brevard 3
The Tornados pulled within a run of the Buffaloes in the bottom of the 7th on a sacrifice fly by Kacey Brooker, but couldn’t score Mollie Matthis from third with two outs in the 4-3 loss.
Brevard struck first in the game, taking a 1-0 lead on a Michelle Ray RBI single in the bottom of the 4th.
Milligan scored three runs on three hits in the top of the 5th against BC starter Jamie Hrobak (L, 2-2) to take a 3-1 lead.
The Tornados scratched a run across in the bottom of the 6th on an RBI double by Emily Boykin that scored Brittany Jones.
The Buffaloes added an insurance run in the top of the 7th on an RBI single by Sarah Arrowood, which turned out to be the difference in the game.
Game Two: Brevard 3, Milligan 1
Emily Boykin put the Tornados out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when she doubled in Brittany Jones, who scored from first after reaching on a fielder's choice.
BC starter Kayla Clemens (W, 2-1) tossed six no-hit innings before allowing the game-tying solo homer to Milligan’s Emily Biggs to start off the 7th inning. Clemens then retired the side in order to send the game into the bottom of the 7th.
After the Tornados were unable to score in the bottom of the 7th, Clemens stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the 8th inning to set the stage for Tucker’s late-game heroics.
The Tornados are back in action when they host the Pfeiffer Falcons for a doubleheader on Saturday February 23rd. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
