Aiken, S.C.- The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team swept the BC Tornados in a doubleheader at J.H. Satcher Field on Sunday afternoon, claiming 6-0 and 2-0 victories.
Game 1: USC Aiken 6, Brevard 0
The Pacers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning against BC starter Alyssa Miller, who didn't record an out before Jamie Hrobak entered the game in relief. The freshman was able to keep it a three-run game until the Pacers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the 5th before going up 6-0 with a run in the 6th.
The Tornados couldn’t get their offense going against Aiken’s India Kornegay, who tossed a complete-game shutout. Alyssa Miller’s double to right center in the Brevard 4th spoiled Kornegay’s no-hit bid.
Game 2: USC Aiken 2, Brevard 0
Another strong pitching performance from USC Aiken limited the Tornados in game two as Taylor Morgan tossed another complete-game shutout for the Pacers.
The Tornados picked up three hits against Morgan, but weren’t able to string any base runners together.
Kayla Clemens made the start for BC, allowing only one earned run in the complete-game effort. Aiken’s Sarah Montei reached on a BC fielding error in the 3rd and scored on a Brittney Williamson homer to account for the game’s only two runs.
The Tornados are back in action as they host the Lees-McCrae Bobcats on Monday afternoon for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m. The game is a rescheduling the doubleheader originally slated for February 16th.
