Brevard, N.C.-The Brevard College softball team split their doubleheader with the Lees-McRae Bobcats on Monday afternoon, taking the opener 3-1 before falling to the Bobcats 4-1 in the second game.
Game 1: Brevard 3, Lees-McRae 1
The Tornados picked up the win in the first game on the shoulders of starter Jamie Hrobak (W, 3-2), who hurled a complete-game four-hitter. The freshman struck out ten Bobcats in the process, allowing only one earned run.
The Tornados picked up a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st thanks to patience at the plate, as BC worked four walks in the inning against starter Kristen Oakes (L, 0-6).
The Bobcats scored their only run in the top of the 5th as Kierstie Moon tripled in Lori Fulmer with two outs. Hrobak ended the Bobcats scoring threat by inducing a groundout to end the inning.
Game 2: Lees-McRae 4, Brevard 1
The Bobcats went in front 2-0 against BC starter Kayla Clemens (L, 2-3) in the top of the 3rd inning on a two-run double by Hanna Huckabee.
Emily Boykins pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the 4th made it a one-run game, but the Bobcats got a pair of runs in the top of the 6th, scoring on a passed ball and an RBI single by Fulmer.
The Tornados had runners in scoring position in both of their final two at bats, but couldn’t bring any runs home.
The Tornados will play four games this weekend as part of the Mid-South Classic softball tournament in Spartanburg, S.C. BC will see North Georgia, Bellarmine, Armstrong and Columbus State between Friday and Sunday.
