Salisbury , N.C. –The Brevard College Tornados baseball team was swept in a doubleheader with Catawba College Indians on Saturday afternoon at Newman Park, falling 15-0 in game one before dropping a 10-3 decision in the second game. Catawba completed the series sweep after taking the opener on Friday night.
Game One – Catawba 15, Brevard 0
Tornados starter Brennan Daniels (L, 1-2 ) retired the side in order in the first inning before the Indians scored 10 runs over the next three innings, seven of which were charged to Daniels before the righty was lifted in favor of Chad Fisher in the 4th. Daniels allowed nine hits and a walk over 3.1 innings.
Fisher recorded one out in the 4th before a BC fielding error with two outs led to three unearned runs for the Indians. Catawba added two in the 6th and three in the 7th against Heath Blackmon and Zach Huneycutt, respectively. The Indians collected 20 hits in the game.
BC's lone hit came off the bat of Kody Spencer in the top of the 2nd.
Game Two – Catawba 10, Brevard 3
Catawba capitalized on three Brevard errors in the bottom of the 1st inning to jump out to a 7-0 lead against BC starter Nick Blackwood (L,1-2), who recorded only one out in the 1st before Alex Litaker was called in from the bullpen. Blackwod was charged with seven runs (three earned), allowing five hits and a walk.
The Tornados got one run back in the top of the 2nd on a Chris Christopoulos RBI single up the middle, but Garrett Furr answered for the Indians in their half of the 2nd with a solo homer to make it 8-1.
Matt Proffitt knocked a solo homer in the 4th to cut the Indians lead to 8-2 before Catawba's Paul Kronenfield answered with a two-run shot in their half of the 4th to make it 10-2.
Champ Stuart stole home in the 5th for the Tornados final run. The Tornados finished with four hits.
