ROCK HILL, S.C. — With one week remaining in the South Atlantic Conference regular season soccer schedule, Brevard College midfielder Jussi Halonen (Joensuu, Finland) has been named SAC Men’s Soccer Player of the Week.
Last Friday the freshman scored the game winning goal to give the Tornados a 2-1 overtime win over Lincoln Memorial University. The win was the first South Atlantic Conference win ever for the Tornado men’s soccer program. Nine minutes into the first OT period, Halonen sideswiped a loose ball into the net for the golden goal after Neill and Alex VonSchulze headed the ball into the 18-yard box.
On the season, Halonen is second on the team with four goals, first on the Tornado squad with four assists and first in points with 12.
The Tornados are now 4-13-1 overall on the year and 1-6 in South Atlantic Conference play. On Wednesday Brevard will play host to non-conference opponent North Greenville University at 4:00 p.m., before closing out the regular season schedule this Saturday when BC travels to Salisbury, North Carolina to take on South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba College at 4 o’clock.
The SAC Player of the Week is determined by a vote of the sports information directors of the league.
