Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College Tornados fell to the Young Harris Mountain Lions 16-11 at Gil Coan Field on Wednesday afternoon in nonconference action.
The Tornados used a six-run 5th inning to take an 8-3 lead before the Mountain Lions scored 10 runs over the next two innings to take a 13-8 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th.
BC’s Nick Blackwood walked to start the 8th and later scored on a wild pitch before Matt Proffitt doubled in a run and an Eric Renegar RBI single cut the Young Harris lead to two runs heading into the 9th.
The Mountain Lions, though, posted three runs in the top of the 9th to push their lead to five runs, and the Tornados went quietly in the bottom of the 9th to end the game.
Renegar finished 3-for-5 with two RBI’s to lead a BC club that banged out 13 hits on the afternoon. Proffitt, Kody Spencer and Hunter Donaldson each had two hits for the Tornados.
Cody Queen put the Tornados up 2-1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning with a two-run homer over the left field fence, his first of the season.
The Tornados and Mountain Lions are scheduled to meet once more this season, at Gil Coan Field on March 27th, with Young Harris holding a 3-2 lead in the season series.
