Brevard, N.C.- Lincoln Memorial’s Brandon Cowan held the Tornados scoreless in a complete-game effort on the mound to give the Railsplitters a 6-0 victory over Brevard in the series opener at Gil Coan Field on Friday afternoon.
Cowan (W, 3-2) held the Tornados to five hits and a walk over nine innings while striking out six.
BC starter Kevin Hamilton (L, 5-2) struck out the side in the 1st and kept LMU off the board until the top of the 3rd when Scott Miller knocked an RBI double to left to give the Railsplitters a 1-0 advantage.
LMU got two more in the 5th on a Cody Baker RBI single and a Miller RBI groundout to make it 3-0. Miller finished 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a pair of RBI’s to lead the Railsplitters to 12 hits.
Hamilton fanned Baker in the 7th before leaving with runners on first and third and one out. BC reliever James Phillips allowed a single and a run-scoring groundball to give LMU a 5-0 lead.
Hamilton tossed 6.1 innings, and was charged with five earned runs on eight hits and two walks while collecting eight strikeouts.
The Railsplitters made it 6-0 in the top of the 9th against Ryan Mercer as Miller doubled to left center and later scored on a wild pitch.
The two teams are scheduled to finish the three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon beginning at 12 p.m. at Gil Coan Field.
