Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College Tornados were edged in extra innings in both games of their doubleheader with the Winston-Salem State Rams on Friday afternoon, losing the opener 1-0 in nine innings before dropping game two 8-6 in eight innings.
Game 1: Winston-Salem State 1, Brevard 0
The Rams scored the game’s only run on a Nikki Lynch sacrifice fly in the 9th inning of game that saw three total hits.
Jamie Hrobak (L, 6-10) took the tough-luck loss, shutting out the Rams for eight innings before the Winston-Salem took the lead in the 9th. The freshman allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out a pair in the complete-game effort.
Winston-Salem starter Brittany Lane (W, 10-7) kept the Tornados off the board for all nine innings, allowing just one hit while striking out nine.
Game 2: Winston-Salem State 8, Brevard 6
The Tornados rallied for three runs with two outs in the bottom of the 7th to send the game in extras before the Rams scored a pair in the top of the 8th to steal the win.
With BC down 6-3 in the 7th, Alyssa Miller and Brittany Fowler reached on errors to put runners on first and second with one out. Kayla Clemens reached on a fielder’s choice that erased Fowler to put runners on the corners with two down.
Miller and Clemens scored on a Brittany Tucker double to bring BC within a run, and Emily Boykin singled to left tie the game and force extra innings.
BC starter Kayla Clemens (L, 4-9) surrendered eight runs (only three were earned) over eight innings while striking out four.
The Tornados resume South Atlantic Conference action on Wednesday as they travel to Wingate for a doubleheader with the Bulldogs beginning at 2 p.m.
