Wingate, N.C.- The Brevard College softball team was swept in a doubleheader by the Wingate University Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon, falling 9-3 in game one before losing 10-1 in the nightcap.
Game 1: Wingate 9, Brevard 3
The Bulldogs plated six runs in the bottom of the 4th to go up 7-2 after an Ally Davenport two-run single gave BC a 2-1 lead in the top of the 4th.
The Tornados attempted a two-out rally in the 7th with back-to-back doubles from Michelle Ray and Alyssa Miller to make it 9-3, but Wingate’s Stacey Houser got a strikeout to end the game.
Houser (W, 14-9) threw a complete game for WU, allowing three runs on eight hits while fanning three.
Ally Davenport was 1-for-3 with the two RBI’s while Alyssa Miller was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Brittany Tucker also had two hits for the Tornados.
BC starter Jamie Hrobak (L, 6-11) allowed four runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings of work while striking out three Bulldogs.
Game 2: Wingate 10, Brevard 1 (5 innings)
Wingate’s Kayla Saliga hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the 5th to give the Bulldogs a run-rule shortened victory in the second game.
Wingate jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st and pushed across four more runs in the 2nd to take a seven-run advantage
Kayla Clemens led off the 4th inning with a solo homer to right center to put BC on the board.
Houser (W, 15-9) threw another complete game in the finale, allowing a run on one hit in five innings in the circle.
Clemens (L, 4-11) made the start for Brevard, surrendering 10 runs on 12 hits in four innings of work, striking out three.
The Tornados return to action Saturday as they Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday at 1 p.m for Senior Day.
