Brevard, N.C.- Cody Queen’s solo homer in the 8th inning lifted Brevard College to a 6-5 win over the Anderson Trojans in the South Atlantic Conference series opener at Anderson Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

Queen’s round tripper broke a 5-5 tie with one out in the 8th inning after BC scored two in the top of the 7th to tie the game. Queen drove in three runs while going 3-for-4 on the night to pace BC.

Trailing 5-3 after six innings, Alex Bedenbaugh singled to start the 7th before Champ Stuart reached on a two-base error that moved Bedenbaugh to third. Bennett Hixson then tied the game with a two-run single up the middle.

BC reliever James Phillips (W, 1-0) tossed five scoreless innings in relief of Tornados starter Brennan Daniels, who allowed five earned runs over four innings. Phillips limited AU to just two hits and two walks to earn the win.

The Tornados took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd on Queen’s two-run single that plated Kody Spencer and Eric Renegar.

The two teams exchanged runs to send BC into the bottom of the 4th up 3-1 before Anderson took the lead with three runs in the 4th and another in the 5th.

The Tornados and Trojans will complete their three-game series on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader at Anderson Memorial Stadium beginning at 1 p.m.
