Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College Tornados jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning and never looked back on Wednesday afternoon, slugging their way to a 10-4 victory over the North Greenville Crusaders at Gil Coan Field.
The Tornados started the game with four straight singles including Cody Queen’s RBI single to put BC on top 1-0. Eric Renegar then scored on a wild pitch before Bennett Hixson made it 3-0 with an RBI groundout.
North Greenville got a run back in the top of the 4th on an RBI single before Renegar drove in two runs with a single to center in the bottom of the 5th to extend BC’s lead to 5-1.
Queen drove in two more runs with a single and scored on a wild pitch in the 7th, and Hixson added an RBI single to cap the four-run inning.
With the Tornados up 9-1, Eric Renegar added an RBI double in the bottom of the 8th that scored Aaron Goforth to give BC a nine-run lead.
Renegar finished 3-for-4 with three RBI’s to lead the Tornados while Queen also drove in three with a pair of hits. Hixson also drove in two runs for the Tornados.
BC starter Tyler Lequire (W, 1-2) gave the Tornados eight solid innings on the hill, scattering 12 hits and a walk to hold NGU to three runs. The righty also fanned nine.
The Crusaders scored three runs in the top of the 9th with the game already out of striking distance.
The Tornados now prepare for their final South Atlantic Conference series of the season as they welcome Newberry to Gil Coan Field for a three-game series this weekend.
