ROCK HILL, S.C. – Brevard College freshman Rhem Stubbs claimed the South Atlantic Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week award for his performance against Erskine on Saturday, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Stubbs netted a pair of goals his collegiate debut to pace the Tornados past Erksine, 2-1, in double overtime Saturday evening.
The freshman gave BC a lead in the 40th minute after firing a shot past Erksine’s goalkeeper to make it a 1-0 game. The Huntersville, N.C., native gave BC the victory following a header in double overtime to secure the Tornados first season-opening victory since at least 2008.
Stubbs sits tied for fourth in the SAC in points (four) and tied for second in goals scored (two).
Stubbs and the Tornados travel to Belmont-Abbey Wednesday afternoon before squaring off with King University Saturday afternoon in Brevard, N.C.
