BC matches win total from last season

BREVARD, N.C. – Brevard College junior Augusto Isern scored the matches lone goal to propel Brevard to a 1-0 victory against King Saturday afternoon in Brevard, N.C.

The Tornados improve to 2-1-0 on the season and match last season’s win total. King remains winless with the loss and sits at 0-3-1 on the year.

Isern broke a scoreless tie in the 70th minute when he received a pass from Jami Uuttu on the right side. The Caracas, Venezuela, native had just enough bend on the ball to sneak it past Kari Sveinsson from 10 yards out.

“I got to say it was 50-50. It was 50 percent luck,” said Isern. “I was trying to do something with it, so I crossed it and it went in.”

Freshman Heath Turner earned his first collegiate shutout while gathering three saves on the day. King outshot the Tornados, 15-9, including seven off the foot of Eli Carrasco.

“It was a great game, it was really a great game for us, not only to win the game, but to do it in the way we played,” said head coach Juan Mascaro. “Augusto has come up big for us, it was a great goal. He is working hard…and hard work pays off.”

The Tornados hit the road for a match against USC-Aiken on Tuesday with action slated to begin at 7 p.m. in Aiken, S.C.
