AIKEN, S.C.- The Brevard College men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss in a tightly contested match against USC-Aiken Tuesday night at Pacer Pit in Aiken, S.C.
USC-Aiken earned its first win of the season (1-3-1) and has topped BC in two of the last three seasons. BC (2-2) lost for the second time on the road in as many matches and was shutout for the first time on the young season.
Both squads came out aggressive as the two teams combined for 16 shots in the first half. The Pacers grabbed a lead in the 35th minute that they wouldn't relinquish.
USC-Aiken's Jason King collected a loose ball and snuck a shot past BC goalkeeper Heath Turner to make it 1-0.
The Tornados continued their intense play in the second half while firing eight shots on goal. However, Pacer goalkeeper Joshua Poissant managed to keep BC off the board.
In the waning seconds of the second half, BC's Brandon Pittman put a shot on goal that went no more than a foot high while the Pacers kept the shutout intact.
Turner stonewalled five shots on the evening while Poissant amassed six. Ryan McPhillips and Winston Haddock paced the Tornado offense as each had three shots while all but one starter recorded a shot.
The Tornados wrap up a brief two-match road swing with a game at Winthrop Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C.
