GREENEVILLE, Tenn.- The Brevard College volleyball team was swept in straight sets by the Tusculum College Pioneers Saturday afternoon in Pioneer Arena. The Pioneers (7-3, 2-1 SAC) won the match by scores of 25-7, 25-15, and 25-23.
Tusculum started on a 9-0 run in the opening set and never looked back, handling the first two sets 25-7 and 25-15.
BC mounted a comeback in the third set after falling behind 17-8, scoring nine unanswered to bring the set within a point at 17-16. TC answered with two straight points before BC rattled off four unanswered to take a 20-19 lead on a block by Erin Rollins.
Tusculum, however, took the next two points to regain the lead and later closed the set on a BC service ace to edge the Tornados 25-23. TC’s Rachel Garnett turned in a game-high 10 kills to lead the Pioneers.
Fatima Gharachorloo led BC with seven kills at a .200 hitting percentage, while freshman Jasmine Robinson tied her season-high with five kills.
Defensively, both Kayla Hanus and Aleksandra Vrvilo had a game-high eight digs.
The Tornados (3-5, 0-4 SAC) begin a two-game home stand as they host the Newberry College Wolves in Boshamer Gymnasium on Friday September 24th at 7 p.m.
