BREVARD, N.C.-The Brevard college women’s volleyball team took the opening set from Newberry College before the Wolves won three straight sets to earn a 3-1 win in South Atlantic Conference action in Boshamer Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
Newberry (8-2, 3-2 SAC) won the match by scores of 20-25, 25-19, 25-18, and 25-16.
Brevard (3-6, 0-5 SAC) used a pair of 4-0 runs to steal the first set, scoring four unanswered to take a 13-8 lead on a kill by Megan Clark and later putting the set out of Newberry’s reach with four straight points to go in front 24-18.
The Tornados clinched the set, 25-20, on a Newberry set error. Fatima Gharachorloo had two kills and a pair of service aces in the opening set.
Newberry rebounded after the loss in the opening set to take three straight sets and the match, benefitting from a match-high 13 kills by Samantha Parrish. Jessica King threw in 12 kills with the help of 45 set assists from Chelsea Mayor.
Erin Rollins paced BC with nine kills, while Clark and Gharachorloo combined for 15 kills for the Tornados.
Freshman Aleksandra Vrvilo pitched in a game-high 17 digs defensively for Brevard.
The Tornados continue their conference home stand as they host the Anderson University Trojans in Boshamer Gymnasium on Friday, September 27th at 7 p.m.
