GREENSBORO, N.C. – Brevard College freshman Marc DeLisle ran a personal best and earned a top-five finish at the Greensboro XC Invitational Saturday afternoon at Hagan Stone Park in Greensboro, N.C.
The men’s team provided its best outing of the year while the squad finished third overall. DeLisle paced the squad with a time of 26:42.49 to finish fifth. Senior Josh Mower finished sixth with a time of 26:43.05.
Patrick Helmick enjoyed a solid outing completing the 8K course in a time of 27:51.58 while teammate Jordan Tager needed 28:01.81 to complete the track.
The third place finish is the highest for the men’s team this season. The field included High Point, West Liberty State, Concord and Covenant.
“The men’s plan was to run very aggressively through the first half of the race,” said head coach Adam Malloy. “They followed the plan well; it just coincided with the toughest miles of the course. We learned a lot about ourselves today.”
On the women’s side, Hannah Cook earned a top-10 finish in the 5K with a time of 19:25.93 while finishing third. Heidi Kaartinen finished 17th with a time of 20:38.21 while Madison Smith notched a 25th place finish with a time of 20:58.30.
The Tornados will enjoy a bye week
before returning to action on Oct. 11 when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. for
the Queens Royals Challenge at McAlpine Creek Park.
