BC extends winless streak to six

BREVARD, N.C.- Lincoln Memorial’s Michelle Hunter notched two goals while the Brevard College offense was shutout on Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference match at Brevard Soccer Field in Brevard, N.C.

The Tornados (3-5-1, 0-3-1 SAC) were shutout for the second time in three matches while seeing their winless streak reach six. The Railsplitters (6-2-1, 4-1 SAC) continued their recent success against BC by winning their six consecutive match while winning their second road match on the year.

“Our girls came to play. They played well,” said assistant coach Marissa Muller. “But the last two minutes, LMU kept pushing it to us and capitalized on their opportunities.”

The Railsplitters drew blood in the 30th minute when Hunter netted her first of goal of the day following a cross from Michelle Allen. Hunter chipped it in from nine yards out to give LMU a lead it’d never relinquish.

Lincoln Memorial delivered the knockout blow in the 87th minute when it saw Nicole McKinney corral up a rebound off of the crossbar and slip it past the Tornados’ Brittany Webster.

The Railsplitters concluded the scoring less than two minutes later when Hunter found the back of the net following a 12-yard blast.

Sarah Fonger and Clair Deese paced the Tornado offense with three and two shots, respectively.

“She (Deese) is one player that is always looking to improve, she asks questions and she listens,” said Muller. “She’s a great player and her game was on today.”

Lincoln Memorial held the advantage in shots, 18-7, including a 14-5 mark in the second half. Webster collected four saves while the Railsplitters Kayla Stephen stopped two. Hunter led both teams with six shots while teammate McKinney had five.

The Tornados look to bounce back Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. when it welcomes Tusculum in a South Atlantic Conference bout in Brevard, N.C.
