ROCK HILL, S.C.-Brevard College cornerback Jacob McCleery has been named the South Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.
McCleery, a sophomore from Columbia, South Carolina, helped lead a dominant Brevard defense in Saturday’s 35-7 win over Mars Hill. The 28-point margin of victory marked BC’s largest in a SAC game since joining the conference in 2008. With the Tornados leading 7-0 early in the 3rd quarter, McCleery returned an interception 74 yards for a touchdown – the first of four-unanswered touchdowns for BC in the second half.
McCleery also finished the game with six tackles, and now has 23 tackles and a pair of interceptions on the season.
Newberry quarterback W.T. Murden and Lenoir-Rhyne punt returner Michael Green were the other SAC honorees this week.
