TAZEWELL, TENN.- The Brevard College men's golf team finished a season-best 5th place at the State Farm Intercollegiate earlier this week after the Tornados shot an even par (288) in the second round. Hosted by Lincoln Memorial University at Woodlake Golf Club, a 6,771-yard par 72, the State Farm Intercollegiate was a two-day event comprised of 12 teams and 63 individual golfers.
The Tornados were tied for 6th after round one, but used their best round of the season to grab sole possession of 5th place.
"The second round team score (level par) was the best this year for us,” said head coach Dave Nelson. “I continue to see great improvement in the players. Being so young (three freshman and two sophomores), we just have to be patient. The talent is there, we just need more tournament experience."
BC freshman Sebastian Strehl shot a solid 146, carding a 73 on Monday and Tuesday to finish two-over-par. Sophomore Sami Vanni shot a 76 on Monday, but rebounded with a 68 (-4) on Tuesday.
"Vanni again showed he can post some low scores,” Nelson added. “His 68 in round two was very solid.”
The Tornados wrap their fall campaign next week at the Walters State Fall Invitational in Morristown, Tennessee.
