BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College men’s basketball team will open their 2013-2014 season on Friday night in an exhibition game with Wake Forest University. Tipoff from Lawrence Joel Coliseum in Winston-Salem is set for 7 p.m.
The exhibition with the Demon Deacons, who finished tied for 9th in the Atlantic Coast Conference last season, is the first of three exhibitions for the Tornados this season.
BC will visit four other Division I programs this year, including exhibition contests at UNC Asheville on November 4th and Radford University on November 16th.
The Tornados will return to Timmons Arena again this season for a regular season game with Division I Furman University on November 30th. The Paladins topped BC 76-53 in an exhibition game in Greenville last November.
Brevard’s final game against a Division I opponent is with The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina on December 8th. The Bulldogs finished 5th in the South Division of the Southern Conference in 2012-2013.
The Tornados begin regular season play at home on November 13th when they host Lees-McRae College in Boshamer Gymnasium at 7 p.m. BC topped the Bobcats 109-100 in Banner Elk last December.
Brevard wraps their nonconference schedule with a trip to Fayetteville State on December 7th. The Broncos finished 9-17 overall and 4-12 in the CIAA last year.
The Tornados are entering their 6th season as members of the South Atlantic Conference and will take on a 22-game league schedule that includes conference newcomers Coker College and Queens University of Charlotte. Brevard opens conference play on November 20th at Anderson University.
The Tornados play their first conference home game on November 23rd with Newberry College, and will host a total of 11 conference games in Boshamer Gymnasium in 2013-2014.
The 2014 Food Lion SAC Tournament begins Mar. 5 with quarterfinal games being held at campus sites. The semifinal and championship rounds of the SAC Tournament will be held March 8-9th at Furman University’s Timmons Arena.
Brevard returns five lettermen from last year’s squad under second-year head coach Lee Burgess. Leading scorer Dominique Pickett (15.6 ppg) and leading rebounder Miles Leathers (5.4 rpg) are returning for BC along with SAC All-Freshman Team selection Manzey Miller.
The Tornados were picked to finish 11th in the conference’s 2013-2014 preseason coaches’ poll, it was announced by the league office Wednesday.
