This is Soga's first year with the Tornados
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Brevard College junior Yuki Soga was named to the First-Team All-SAC squad as a midfielder for her impressive 2013 campaign, the South Atlantic Conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

The Tokyo, Japan, native was one of five Tornados to start all 17 matches this season while leading the team in most offensive categories.

“We have come so far as a team this year, and Yuki was a big part of it for us. She is the type of player that you tell her ways to improve and she will do it right away without any questions,” said head coach Shigeyoshi Shinohara. “She had some key goals and assists for us throughout this season, helping us overcome close games. Yuki has been a great asset to this program. This award is well deserved, and it shows her hard work has paid off this year.”

Soga paced the team with four goals, three assists and 11 points while finishing fourth in shots (15) and converted the team’s only penalty kick on the year.

BC finished the season 3-13-1 overall (0-10-1 SAC) while scoring six more goals this season (16) than it did last year (10).

Soga landed with a splash while collecting an assist in the season-opening 3-1 win against King (Sept. 5) before notching both goals in a Tornado 2-1 victory against Erskine two days later.

She tallied a goal against Queens Sept. 22 in a 3-2 loss before dishing out assists on Oct. 9 and Oct. 16 against Tusculum and Pfeiffer, respectively.

The junior netted the game-tying goal via penalty kick at Mars Hill Oct. 25; however, the Tornados suffered a gut-wrenching overtime loss to the Lions.

Wingate’s Jade Montgomery earned Player of the Year recognition for the second consecutive season while Queens’ Caitlyn Rodrigues received Freshman of the Year merits. Lenoir-Rhyne’s Cally Morrill collected the SAC Coach of the Year award.
