HARROGATE, Tenn.- The Brevard College volleyball team gained a 2-0 advantage against Lincoln Memorial in Mary E. Mars Gymnasium Friday night before the Railsplitters took the final three sets for a 3-2 victory in South Atlantic Conference action. LMU stole the match by scores of 15-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-14, and 15-8.
Senior Megan Clark delivered a season-high 19 kills for the Tornados while turning in a .368 hitting percentage. Fatima Gharachorloo and Savannah Cox also tallied double-digit kills, finishing with 12 and 10, respectively.
The Tornados used six unanswered points in the first set to jump out to a 17-10 lead and later closed the commanding victory on a 5-2 run. Clark led BC with six kills in the opener.
Brevard jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the second set before LMU closed the gap with four straight. The set went back and forth until the Tornados broke a 24-24 tie with two straight points to narrowly edge the Railsplitters for a 2-0 advantage.
The Railsplitters then engineered three straight set wins to sweep the season series 2-0. Brooke Fleeman led LMU with 17 kills, while Kaitlin Walton had 15 and Kendra Gephart pitched in 11.
The Tornados will conclude their 2013 campaign tomorrow afternoon as they visit the Carson-Newman Eagles at 12 p.m. in Holt Fieldhouse.
