ANDERSON, N.C- The Brevard College men’s basketball team lost their South Atlantic Conference opener 82-69 at the hands of the Anderson University Trojans in the Abney Athletic Center on Wednesday night.

The Tornados (0-2, 0-1 SAC) took a quick 6-2 lead thanks to three-pointers from Manzey Miller and Dominique Pickett in the first 1:01 of play before Anderson (4-0, 1-0 SAC) answered back.

The Trojans engineered a 12-3 run which briefly tied the game at 9-9 prior to AU taking the lead for good on a Myson Jones three-point play at the 14:58 mark in the first half.

Miles Leathers hit a jumper to momentarily stall the Trojans run and make it a three-point game, but AU rattled off five unanswered points to go ahead 19-11 on a Jones three-pointer at 13:09. Jones fueled the Trojans in the early going with six of his eight points in the first seven minutes of play.

Brevard freshman Trevon Shaw answered with a three of his own with 12:51 left and a three-point play from Miller made it a four-point game less than a minute later.

Anderson didn’t allow BC to get any closer as the Trojans shot 56.4 percent (31-for-55) from the floor in the game to keep BC at bay. The Trojans used an 11-1 run to take a 31-18 lead on their way to a 10-point advantage at the break.

BC’s Darius Moose scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half, but the Trojans were able to keep the lead thanks in part to a 13-4 run coming out of the half. AU’s Chandler Hash led all scorers with 25 points, highlighted by a 5-of-8 performance from beyond the arc.

CJ Gleaton (15 points) and Chris Ross (12 points) also finished in double figures for the Trojans. Gleaton added a game-high 10 rebounds to notch a double-double.

Miller paced the Tornados with 21 points along with three rebounds and three assists while Miles Leathers finished with 10 points and six boards. Moose grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Brevard will play their first conference home game on Saturday as they welcome the Newberry Wolves to Boshamer Gymnasium for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
