BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College men’s basketball team will travel to Greeneville, Tennessee on Tuesday night in search of their first win of the season against the Tusuclum College Pioneers. Tipoff from Pioneer Arena is set for 8 p.m.
The Tornados (0-3, 0-2 SAC) are coming off a 94-71 loss to Newberry on Saturday afternoon in Boshamer Gymnasium. The Pioneers (1-5, 0-2 SAC) are in search of their first conference win after losses to Carson-Newman and Wingate to open conference play.
Tusculum was picked 9th in the SAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll after finishing 8th last season with a 4-14 record in league play.
The Pioneers do much of their scoring from the perimeter, and currently lead the SAC in three pointers made and attempted.
TC’s Addison Flynn is 7th in the conference in scoring, averaging 19.7 points per game this season. Not far behind are Darius Carter (14.0 ppg) and Jalen Walker (13.5 ppg).
Matt Shown (6’6”) and Neal Spinks (6’7”) log most of the minutes in TC’s frontcourt, and are combining for 15 points and 11.6 rebounds on the year.
Also down low for the Pioneers is Keith Jumper, last season’s SAC Freshman of the Year. The 6-foot-7 forward is averaging 5.8 points and 2.8 rebounds this season.
Brevard has shown a balanced scoring attack in the early going, with four players averaging at least 10 points per game. Darius Moose is pacing the Tornados with 18.3 points per game, and is currently tied for 5th in the league in rebounds (8.0 rebounds per game).
Also scoring in double figures for the Tornados are Dominique Pickett (15.3 ppg), Manzey Miller (12.3 ppg) and Miles Leathers (10.3 ppg).
Alex Moe, who missed BC’s season opener against Lees-McRae with a shoulder injury, is averaging 6.5 points and 7 rebounds through his first two games.
The Tornados are shooting a keen 43.2 percent in 74 attempts from beyond the arc this season, ranking second in the conference behind Wingate (46.3).
The Tornados earned a split in the season series last year with an 85-76 win in the season finale in Boshamer Gymnasium on March 2nd after the Pioneers edged BC 66-64 in Greenville on February 2nd. Tusculum leads the series 7-3 since Brevard joined the SAC as full members for the 2008-2009 season.
