BC faces Saint Leo Friday at 9 p.m. ET

The Brevard College women’s basketball team will embark on one of its longest road trips in its history when it treks well over 4,000 miles to participate in the AT&T Hoops Classic hosted by Alaska Anchorage University Friday and Saturday. BC battles No. 27 Saint Leo at 9 p.m. ET Friday evening from Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

Schedule Notes: The Tornados (2-5) fell in heartbreaking fashion Saturday, Dec. 14, to Queens in South Atlantic Conference action, 67-66, after Shonice Pettaway banked in a half-court three-pointer at the buzzer to stun the home crowd. Pettaway led both squads with 26 points while freshman Madison Lenox had a career day with 21 points and was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Sophomore Katie Williams impressed with 17 points and a pair of assists. After playing its previous three at home, BC will be on the road for six of its next eight games.

Dynamic Duo: Lenox (11.6) and Williams (11.1) pace the squad in scoring average and lead the team in most offensive categories. Both are shooting over 80% from the free-throw line and each has led the team in scoring twice.

It’s Not Personal: The Tornados lead the conference and sit third nationally by committing only 14.3 fouls per game. BC committed 15 fouls for only the third time this season after four consecutive games of 13 or less.

Home Cookin’: All but one Tornado (Chezney McJunkin) reigns from North Carolina. McJunkin comes to BC from Easley, S.C.

Saint Leo Success: The Lions (9-0) are one of 12 unbeaten Division II teams and are ranked No. 27 nationally. They rank 10th with a +12 rebound margin while outscoring their opponents by an average of 14 points. Teresa Manigrasso (17.0), Chelsea Williams (16.0) and Chachi Guzman (10.6) lead the potent Lion offense while Chelsea Connelly (8.4) paces the team in rebounds.

Alaska Anchorage Awareness: The Seawolves (7-1) are playing their fifth consecutive home game and are coming off an impress 77-65 victory against No. 6 Seattle Pacific. UAA has four players averaging double digits and is led by Alli Madison (17.5) and Jessica Madison (12.4). Keke Wright paces the team with 8.3 boards per contest.

Keepin’ It Cool Cameron: The Aggies (7-1) are off to a hot start and enter the Classic on a three-game win streak. CU pounded Dallas Christian, 101-33, Saturday. 11 players registered at least one point and the team shot 51.4% from the floor and led by 43 at half (56-13). Jazzmine Robinson (11.3) paces the squad in scoring while Christina Caddy grabs 7.4 rebounds per contest. Cameron lost its lone neutral site game Nov. 29 to Regis, 82-61.

Saturday Schedule: The winner of BC and Saint Leo will take on the winner of Cameron and Alaska Anchorage Sunday at 1 a.m. ET. The loser from both games will meet in the consolation game Saturday at 9 p.m. ET.

Series History: The Tornados have never faced any of the three other teams.
