HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Brevard College women’s basketball team trailed by only a point at halftime before a second half run by Coker College helped the Cobras to a 78-51 win in Timberlake Lawton Gym on Saturday afternoon.
The Tornados even took their first lead to open the second half, going in front 35-34 on a Madison Lenox layup at the 18:34 mark. Lenox paced the Tornados with 15 points, shooting 7-for-12 from the floor and grabbing six rebounds.
From there the Cobras engineered a 16-2 run to take a 50-37 lead at the 12:10 mark in the second half. BC’s Taylor Hiatt hit a layup to snap a 4:19 scoring drought during Coker’s run.
BC struggled to score after the break, connecting on only eight of their field goal attempts in the second half. Brevard shot 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the field on the afternoon.
Tanesha Stenson had a game-high 23 points for the Cobras, and Kelley Godbout chipped in 13 points off the bench for Coker.
Chelsea Turner also scored in double figures for BC, netting 10 points on 3-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Hadara Bannister secured a game-high seven rebounds for the Tornados.
The Tornados return to Boshamer Gymnasium for the first time in 2014 as they host the Tusculum Pioneers on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The game will be regionally televised by WMYA 40.
