WINGATE, N.C.- Brevard College’s Chelsea Turner hit a pair of free throws with seven seconds left in regulation to cut Wingate’s lead to one point, but the Tornados were unable to get a clean look at a game-tying three-pointer after a pair of Bulldog free throws as Wingate edged BC 65-62 on Saturday afternoon in Cuddy Arena.

BC trailed 59-51 with 5:13 left in the second half before going on a 9-3 run to cut their deficit to two points with 28 seconds remaining. Turner’s free throws later made it a one-point game, but Wingate’s Janitsha Williams hit both free throw attempts to extend the Bulldogs lead to three with just over six seconds on the game clock.

Brevard’s (5-11, 4-8) desperation three at the buzzer missed to give the Bulldogs (13-3, 9-3 SAC) their eighth win at home this season.

Turner finished with 10 points off the bench for Brevard while Madison Lenox and Katie Williams both scored 17 points, which was a game-high.

The Tornados capped the first half with a 23-7 run to erase a 10-point deficit and go into the break with a six-point lead. Lenox had 12 of her points in the first half, including 10 during the run that gave BC the lead.

Williams and Kayla Harris both had double-doubles for Wingate, as Williams had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Harris posted 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

The Tornados host the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on Wednesday night for this season’s first meeting between the two teams. Tipoff from Boshamer Gymnasium is set for 6 p.m.
