WINGATE, N.C.- Dominique Pickett tied his career-high of nine assists on Saturday afternoon but the Brevard College men’s basketball team couldn’t overcome an early deficit and fell 85-69 to the Wingate Bulldogs in South Atlantic Conference action from Cuddy Arena.

The redshirt senior had nine assists for the second time in his career, tying a mark set in a win over Mars Hill last December. Pickett also added seven points and three rebounds.

BC had four scorers in double figures as Darius Moose poured in 21 points and seven rebounds to headline the Tornados, while Miles Leathers added 15 points and eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 14-6 lead before the Tornados scored four unanswered points to make it a four-point game less than six minutes into the first half.

Wingate then stretched their lead over the next few minutes of play, eventually closing the first half with 11 straight points to go into the break with a 44-25 advantage.

The Bulldogs continued to control the game in the second half as they stretched their lead to as many as 24. Jeff Parker had a 23-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead WU.

Jake Pifer dropped 12 points and Trevon Shaw chipped in 10 to round out BC’s double-figure scorers.

Brevard will host the Lincoln Memorial Railsplitters on Wednesday night for this season’s first meeting between the two teams. Tipoff from Boshamer Gymnasium is set for 8 p.m.
