ROCK HILL, S.C.- Brevard College sophomore Katie Williams has been voted South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week after helping BC to wins over Mars Hill and Queens last week, the league office announced Monday.
“We’re playing good basketball right now, and Katie has been a huge part of that,” said head coach Shannon Reid. “She’s Brevard’s first ever SAC Player of the Week, and she is more than deserving of this recognition.”
Williams poured in 28 points on Wednesday in an 86-74 win at Mars Hill, including a 21-of-22 performance from the free-throw line. Williams’ 21 made free throws set a Brevard record and tied for the third-most in SAC history. She also set career highs in the contest with nine rebounds and five assists.
The Robbinsville, N.C. native then went for 14 points, eight boards and three assists on Saturday in a 61-39 victory at Queens. She leads the SAC in free-throw shooting at 88.2-percent.
“She’s beginning to capitalize on the heights of her potential as a basketball player, and it’s really exciting,” added Reid.
Brevard begins a two-game home stand this week as they welcome Carson-Newman and Coker to Boshamer Gymnasium.
