NEW ORLEANS- Brevard College senior Angela Canale received the Cross Country All-Academic Award from the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, while the women’s cross country team was named an All-Academic Team, the USTFCCCA announced Friday.
Canale received the honor for having a 3.25 GPA and finishing in the top 30% of the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship in November. The senior Exercise Science major compiled a 3.61 cumulative GPA, and finished 65th in the Southeast Regional meet.
The Medford, N.J. native was one of 337 women in Division II who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors for the 2013 cross country season. Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.25 or greater and must have finished among the top 30 percent of total eligible runners at their regional championship or in the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.
The women’s cross country team was recognized as an All-Academic Team for earning a 3.40 GPA, tying them with Lenoir-Rhyne for the highest team GPA in the South Atlantic Conference.
BC was among 136 women’s teams that earned All-Academic Team honors for the 2013 season. Programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA or 3.00 or greater and scored at an NCAA Division II regional meet to qualify for the award.
