DALLAS-Brevard College righthander Zac Joyce has been named Southeast Region Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Febraury 16th, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Wednesday.
“Zac has done such a great job, and we’re really proud of him and this accomplishment,” said head coach Matt McCay. “It’s pretty special to get a regional honor, and we’re glad he’s brought attention to himself and Brevard College.”
The Walkertown, N.C. native tossed a complete-game shutout in BC’s 1-0 seven-inning victory over Catawba on Sunday, allowing just one hit while striking out six. The junior was named South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday for the performance.
“He’s worked really hard over the last three years, and it’s great to see him receive this accolade,” added McCay.
Joyce has now thrown 14 innings on the season, posting a 1.29 ERA and eight strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .195 against him.
Joyce and the Tornados host a three-game conference series with the Wingate Bulldogs at Gil Coan Field this weekend, beginning with a 2 p.m. opener on Friday.
