BREVARD, N.C.- The Brevard College men’s lacrosse (1-2, 0-0 SAC) team lost 16-11 while hosting the Shorter University Hawks (1-2) in the second home game of the season at Brevard Lacrosse Field on Saturday, February 22.
Shorter went on a three goal run starting the third quarter until Brevard’s Andrew Bonnie slid one past goalkeeper Tanner Short making the score 9-5 with 9:12 left in the quarter. The quarter continued on a 1-for-1 goal run keeping Brevard down by five until the Hawks Joshua Skinner put a goal in with seconds remaining advancing the score 12-6 into the fourth quarter.
Alfsharif Blackman went 12-14 at the faceoff line to help the Tornados gain possession off the whistle.
The Tornados scored two back to back goals from Nelson Tarrant and Alsharif Blackman during the fourth quarter cutting the deficit down to four. Alsharif Blackman led BC with a hat-trick while teammates Mathew Dropuljic and Kris Mousseau put two each in the back of the net.
Brevard and Shorter stayed within one goal of each other during the second quarter until Shorter’s Joshua Skinner ripped a goal past goalkeeper Andrew Reilly with 16 seconds remaining in the quarter. The goal put Shorter ahead 6-4 going into the third quarter.
Blackman led with two assists and seven groundballs with teammate Blair Alexandersen contributing two assists and four groundballs.
Brevard will travel for their next game against Young Harris at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26.
